Abstract:

Aims: Recently, Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) has been considered by researchers to improve various processes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of tDCS on reaction time in veterans and disabled athletes. Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study with pre-test post-test design was conducted in 2018 among all veterans and disabled persons, who were members of Veterans and disabled board of Shiraz. 24 veterans and disabled persons of Shiraz athletes were selected by available sampling and allocated to experimental and artificial stimulation (sham) groups. Acquisition stage was held during 3 sessions. In the experimental group, an anode electrode was placed on the C4 and the cathode electrode was placed in the FP1. The stimulation rate was 1.5 milliamps in 20 minutes. In the sham groups, the anode and cathode electrode were placed on the C4 and FP1 points, but the stimulation was discontinued after 30 seconds. After the last session, a post-test was performed. Data analysis was performed by SPSS 22, using independent t-test and Multivariable analysis of covariance. Findings: In the post-test, there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the sham at the simple reaction time and choice reaction time and the performance of the experimental group was better than the sham group (p=0.0001). Conclusion: tDCS can improve the simple and choice reaction time in veterans and disabled athletes.

W6: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Workshop

It is an Intensive 1-day course for introducing utilizing transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in an applied format. This technique is a noninvasive brain stimulation that uses direct electrical currents over the head to stimulate specific parts of the brain which modulates neuronal activity. It has strong potentiality in the field of medical and neuroscientific research. Anodal stimu...

Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Auditory-Verbal Memory in Healthy Elderly

Background and purpose: Auditory-verbal memory decreases with age. One method to compensate this weakness is transcranial direct current stimulation. The current study investigated the effect of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on auditory-verbal memory performance of healthy elderly people. Materials and methods: In a randomized clinical trial, 42 healthy subjects with no histor...

Effect of Direct Transcranial Current Stimulation on Pain Intensity of Burn Dressing

Background: Pain is of stressful and unpleasant procedures after daily dressing of burn wound, so that if the burn pain is not alleviated properly, it can cause harmful effects other than discomfort. There is evidence that cathodal stimulation of somatosensory cortex can be effective in relieving acute pain. Aim: The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Direct Transcranial ...

Efficacy of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on BDNF and Psychological Symptoms in Opioid Addicted Patients

Introduction: Addiction to opioids is a serious problem and concern in any nation today.  Unfortunately, the rate of taking these drugs and addiction to them has drastically increased. This research aimed at the study of the degree of the BDNF serum level, reducing depression, stress and also studied the diminishing the craving by means of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in opioi...

Enhancement of Visuospatial Working Memory by Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Prefrontal and Parietal Cortices

Objective: Previous studies have reported dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and posterior parietal (PPC) activation during the performance of spatial working memory (SWM), so we decided to investigate the comparison of Transcranial Direct current stimulation (tDCS) effect between these two areas. Methods: Fifty-four healthy right-handed students (27 female, 27 male; age= 24.3±.2 years) w...
